Facilities
Faculty of the Department have designed and commissioned experimental facilities at three institutions, including national and international firsts. That experience is now being applied to building the Department's own laboratory infrastructure at the Central University of Kashmir.
Laboratory Development Plan at CUK
| Phase | Period | Facility |
|---|---|---|
| Phase I | 2026–27 | Materials and concrete technology laboratory, fully equipped |
| Phase II | 2027–28 | Strong floor and reaction wall; servo-hydraulic actuator system |
| Phase III | 2028–30 | Shake table facility for dynamic testing — a regional first |
Campus Works as Live Teaching Sites
Campus projects designed and supervised in-house by the Department serve as full-scale teaching resources for M.Tech students.
| Facility | Departmental role | Structural system / solution | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Workshop, Main Campus | Design, structural detailing and construction supervision | Portal / gable-framed structure with timber cladding and standing-seam roof; steep roof to shed snow | Completed |
| Kitchen & Dining Facility, Arts Campus | Structural design, envelope specification and detailing | Steel truss roof over pre-engineered insulated sandwich-panel walls | Substantially complete |
| Science Block subgrade | Geotechnical investigation, subgrade and foundation design, supervision | Engineered subgrade with granular replacement and controlled compaction on marshy soil, in place of deep piling | Subgrade complete; superstructure in progress |

Facilities Developed by Faculty Elsewhere
- Full-scale fire column furnace, IIT Roorkee — India's first; reproduces the temperature, load and heat-transfer conditions a column experiences in fire (Dr. Asif Hussain Shah).
- Closed-loop radiant panel, University of Sheffield, UK — tests concrete slabs for fire spalling using surface-temperature feedback rather than gas temperature (Dr. Asif Hussain Shah).
- Composites laboratory, University of Edinburgh, UK — hydraulic heat press for infused GFRP and adhesive layers, used for MAXBLADE tidal-energy component testing (Dr. Zubair Rashid Wani).
