History of the Department
The Central University of Kashmir was established by an Act of Parliament in 2009. The Department of Civil Engineering grew within it from a small teaching unit into a department that now teaches, researches and builds — often all three at once, and often on the University's own campus.
The present faculty team came together between December 2023 and March 2024, bringing experience from IIT Roorkee, NIT Srinagar, the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, the University of Sheffield, the University of Edinburgh, the Islamic University of Science & Technology and Shaqra University (Saudi Arabia). From 2024 the Department also took on a role unusual for an academic unit, becoming the design and supervision authority for major parts of the University's construction programme.
