Department of Civil Engineering 

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Central University of Kashmir, Tulmulla, Ganderbal, offers postgraduate and doctoral education in Structural Engineering for a region that lies in Seismic Zone V and faces rapid urban growth alongside real environmental fragility. Three programmes are on offer: a full-time, two-year M.Tech in Structural Engineering (Regular) with 25 seats, admitted through CCMT and thereafter CUET-PG (Paper Code MTQP02), open to candidates with a B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering or an allied branch with at least 55% marks and a valid GATE score; an AICTE-approved M.Tech in Structural Engineering for Working Professionals, taught through regular face-to-face classes in the evenings, on weekends and on holidays, open to engineers in industry, PSUs and government or private organisations with a minimum of one year of full-time work experience, with selection based 75% on B.E./B.Tech aggregate marks and 25% on work experience; and a PhD in Structural Engineering, admitted through a transparent two-stage process combining shortlisting by the Departmental Research Committee with a research-oriented presentation and viva voce. Teaching is delivered by faculty holding doctorates from IIT Roorkee and NIT Srinagar, with postdoctoral experience at the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Sheffield, and with substantial field and consultancy experience across government departments, PSUs and industry.

Beyond teaching, the Department is actively engaged in externally funded research and doctoral supervision in areas that matter directly to the Kashmir Valley — probabilistic seismic demand and resilience-based design for high seismic risk zones, seismic behaviour of masonry-infilled reinforced concrete frames, structural vibration control and health monitoring, structural fire engineering including the fire performance of earthquake-damaged structures, and sustainable construction materials such as geopolymer and recycled-aggregate concrete — with publications in leading international journals and granted and published patents to its credit. Admissions for the 2026–27 session are open for both M.Tech modes, with registration through the University admission portal at cukashmiradm.samarth.edu.in, and PhD selection for 2026 is under process. Tuition is charged at ₹2,100 per credit per semester for the regular mode and ₹2,600 per credit for working professionals, alongside the common services fees notified by the University.
