History

2011 — The Department was established under the School of Media Studies as the Department of Convergent Journalism, launching its first programme, the Masters in Convergent Journalism, with a focus on New Media and Convergence. It was only the second institution in South Asia to offer a dedicated programme in Convergent Journalism.

2024 — The Department was renamed the Department of Communication & Journalism, and the post-graduate programme was renamed the Masters in Mass Communication & Journalism, broadening its scope to cover all areas of mass communication and journalism.

Over the years the Department has built a well-equipped Multimedia Studio (also used for MOOC content creation) and established its own Community Radio Station, Radio CUKashmir 90.8 FM, which has broadcast talk shows and programmes on subjects ranging from Viksit Bharat and NEP 2020 to social issues such as drug abuse and corruption.
