Only the second institution in South Asia to offer a dedicated programme in Convergent Journalism.
Established and operates Radio CUKashmir 90.8 FM, a fully functional Community Radio Station broadcasting talk shows, awareness programmes, and Viksit Bharat/NEP-2020 content.
The department till now, has produced seven (9) documentary films as part of student media projects in addition to CUK Tarana and Promo movie for the University. Meeras and Waenji Gaash got best film award in recently held Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF). In addition, Saaz - got CEC/UGC award and The Lake Town got nominated/shortlisted in Mumbai International Film Festival 201
Meeras and Waenji Gaash won the Best Film award at the Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF).
Saaz received the CEC/UGC award.
The Lake Town was nominated/shortlisted at the Mumbai International Film Festival.
The documentary “Second Chance – Story of Hope & Recovery” (directed by Dr. Asif Khan, with Sammeer Wani as DoP), on drug and substance abuse, won the Special Jury Award at the Chandigarh University International Film Festival 2023.
Won the first prize at the Two-Day Short Film Fest organized by the Dept. of Mass Communication and Journalism, IUST, in collaboration with Film South Asia and Hri Institute for South Asian Research and Exchange (2023).
Won a T-10 Inter-Department cricket tournament (COSCO) against the Department of Tourism Studies (2022).
Faculty members have received distinctions including a US Fulbright Fellowship (Prof. Shahid Rasool), a Muse India Young Writer Award and Citizen's Talent of the Year Award (Shahnaz Bashir), and recognition as a Google Certified Fake News Debunker (Dr. Arif Nazir).
