Dr. Arif Nazir has more than 16 years
of teaching experience in Journalism and Mass Communication and his areas of
interest include Media Research, New Media, Communication Theories, Models and
Development Communication. He completed his Masters in Journalism and Mass
Communication and Ph.D. (Journalism and Mass Communication) from Guru Nanak Dev
University Amritsar. The focus of his research area has been studying
Communication Strategies in Government Sectors, Health, Politics, etc and also
studying different aspects of New Media & Social Media. Before joining
Department of Convergent Journalism at Central University of Kashmir, he was
working as Assistant Professor and Head Department of Mass Communication and
Video Production DAV College Amritsar, affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University,
Amritsar from year 2008 to July 2020.
Dr. Arif Nazir is a Google Certified Fake News Debunker and is associated with
Google News Initiative (GNI) Programme launched in year 2018 by Google, Data
Leads and Alt News to fight fake news. Apart from his number of publications in
reputed journals and book chapters, he received a major research project (as
Co-PI) from NCSTC, DST, New Delhi. Dr. A. Nazir has presented papers in many
national and international conferences held in India and has also attended
number of workshops, trainings, FDPs and other field based programmes organised
by bodies of national repute like Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Press
Information Bureau (PIB), FTII, NFAI etc. He has been invited as keynote
speaker and also co-chaired sessions organised by different institutes in North
India. He also conducted sessions on ‘Fake News Debunking’ organised by BBC,
New Delhi under ‘Beyond Fake News’ initiative.
Dr. Arif Nazir served member of Faculty of Social Science (Journalism and Mass
Communication) of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. During his tenure at DAV
College Amritsar, he was In-charge Media Cell, Member of Placement Cell, Member
of Publication Committee, NAAC Core Committee, NIRF Cell, In-charge Minority
Cell, Nodal Officer of PMSSS (AICTE) etc. He also served as NSS programme officer
for a period of two years from 2010-2012. Dr. A. Nazir organised the first ever
environment film festival in Amritsar in association with IYCN and also
coordinated with number of organisations like CMS VATAVARAN, American Indian
Foundation (AIF), The Social House, etc. for their initiatives in promoting
social and environmental awareness through film festivals, workshops, training
programmes, open platforms etc.
