Vice Chancellor's Message
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Central University of Kashmir to pursue your academic goals and be a part of CUKs’ intellectual fraternity. As you all know, the Central University of Kashmir is still in the process of its evolution, especially in terms of infrastructural development. Although it was established in 2009, the University is still in its formative stage due to various reasons. Nevertheless, it is becoming one of the premier institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on teaching, learning, training and engagement through academics, research and innovation practices.
The University has grown over a decade with nine different schools and twenty-two departments, offering various programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. Despite the challenges of Infrastructure, the University has been able to focus on academics and research and has produced a reasonable class of academicians and researchers in this short span of time. I am equally happy to know that the university is able to attract well talent pool of students and faculty, who could nurture their strengths into capabilities to solve the challenges of society and economically empowering the nation. The faculty and scholars of the University are publishing their manuscripts and articles in well-reputed international and national journals, which itself speaks of their nature and quality.
As Vice Chancellor my endeavour shall be to create state-of-art infrastructure, academic ambience, motivating research environment and provision of IT enabled services to maintain the quality mandate as envisioned by various regulatory bodies. My focus will be on initiating both academic and administrative reforms to fasten the university growth and establishing new inter/ trans/ multi-disciplinary academic and research centres to meet the requirements of NEP-2020. The University will encourage and support the faculty of varied disciplines to attract the research grants from various funding agencies.
The University has already started the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 from the current academic session 2022-2023 through various reforms in academics, research and governance. As per the policy, the academics will primarily focuses on programs, curricula, pedagogy and faculty. Whereas the research mandates to create a research eco-system, ensure research quality and promote research culture. However, the governance converges on organizational structure, infrastructure, finance, and outreach besides promoting leadership through decentralisation. The CUK will be giving appropriate weightage to all components like Major (Core), Minor, Multidisciplinary, Skill Development and Value Added Courses with a provision for applicability, flexibility and mobility. I must emphasize here that the proper planning, implementing and monitoring of the National Education Policy – 2020 in the University will lead us to achieve the goals under the guidance of our Hon’ble Prime Minister.
The successful conduct of the recent G-20 University Connect through Engaging Young Minds, demonstrated our capacity of faculty, staff and students in meticulously organizing much bigger events and mega functions at the campus and involve all the educational institutions and stake holders of higher education system. We shall continue to raise awareness on importance of ‘Indian Knowledge Systems, Universal Human Values and Life-coping Skills’ while understanding the various global issues reflected in “Sustainable Development Goals”. We also need to prioritise the local issues and challenges in providing research based solutions through outreach by engaging with the civil societies and communities in Kashmir in improving their quality of life.
Our priorities are our students, so our primary focus in the upcoming time will be on the creation of proper infrastructure, focusing on academics and amenities besides creating a vibrant ambiance for teaching and research of international standards. We wish to create universal, qualitative, inclusive, and meaningful life-long learning opportunities which enable students to build rewarding careers. I urge my colleagues at CUK to encourage research scholars to focus their research on multidisciplinary areas, which can be translated into innovations, entrepreneurship, and making the policy for the future.
My priority is to focus on institutional needs, followers’ aspirations and stakeholders’ concerns to enhance the overall quality of academics, research, and governance to make the CUK as the most accessible and desirable destination to expand the opportunities of aspirations of learners. Our individual and collective efforts will make it happen so that ‘People Everywhere Are Cared Equally’ with due respect for each other faith and beliefs. Ultimately, we need to ensure that we create an environment that promotes student-centred creativity, faculty-centred quality, administration-centred excellence, and university-centred progress.
With best wishes and regards,
Prof. A. Ravinder Nath
