About the Department of Politics and Governance

The Department of Politics and Governance is established in 2013. The department currently offers MA Political Science with an annual intake of 38 students.  The department plays an instrumental role in the School of Social Sciences.

 The Department of Politics & Governance is committed to expanding its horizons in innovative ways. In this regard, the Department started an integrated MPhil-PhD programme in the academic year of July 2018. The Department also started a PG Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies in the academic year 2020. The department strives to contribute to the university as well as society and remain a centre of excellence. 

The department has cultivated linkages with academics, research institutions, think tanks, civil society organisations and public intellectuals in India and abroad. These networks are utilised in the form of guest/extension lectures, interactive sessions, and workshops so that new avenues are opened up for the students to develop further engagement for progressing academic research that contributes to society.

At present, the Department of Politics and Governance has faculty members from diverse research backgrounds - Political Theory, International Politics, Gender, Indian Politics, Human Rights and Kashmir Politics. The Department of Politics and Governance is a multidisciplinary entity that combines the study of political systems, theories, and processes with the practical aspects of managing and administering public affairs.
