About the Programme

Eligibility Criteria

Basic Eligibility :- Master’s degree in Commerce (M.Com.) and/or Allied Disciplines from a recognized Indian or Foreign University/Institute with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA

The Ph.D. programmes at the Central University of Kashmir, Department of Commerce is offered in  the following categories:

A) Category-I: Candidates with scholarships/fellowships (UGC-JRF/UGC-CSIR /ICMR/ICAR/GATE/DBT/DST-INSPIRE or any other Fellowship/Scholarship (as applicable).

B) Category-II: Non-fellowship candidates who have qualified NET (UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, etc., or similar National level tests, as applicable). Candidates who have qualified for ‘NET for Admission to Ph.D.’ can also apply.

C) Category-III: Foreign Students & Working Professionals and/or In-service Candidates as under:

a) Foreign Students through ICCR.

b) Corporate Sector, Civil Servants, and FIP/ FDP Faculty

c) Employees of the Central University of Kashmir.

d) Teachers of Schools/Higher Educational Institutions/Research Institutions

Eligibility conditions for Category-III candidates applying under sponsored categories (working professionals and/or in-service candidates)

Apart from the basic programme-wise eligibility requirements, candidates applying under various sponsored categories must necessarily fulfil the following conditions to be eligible for the Ph.D. programme.

(i). Category III (a). Foreign students. The candidates must have obtained a Post Graduate Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent in the concerned subject or in an allied subject approved by the Central University of Kashmir, securing not less than 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale ( or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution assessed by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions. (ii). Category III (b). Employees in Govt./Semi-Govt./PSUs/ Corporate/Industry/ Professional candidates, etc.) The candidates must have obtained a Post Graduate Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent in the concerned subject or in an allied subject approved by the Central University of Kashmir, securing not less than 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution assessed by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.

a) A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS, etc., and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time.

b) Civil servants working in the Government sector shall have a Pay Level in Matrix/Pay Scale Level 11 or higher.

c) An employee in the corporate sector shall be working at a level not less than that of Deputy Manager.

d) Working officials in private organizations/companies with an annual turnover of not less than Rs. 100 crores or above will be considered

e) For professionals, annual emoluments shall not be less than Rs. 12 lakhs.

(iii) Category III (c). Employees of the Central University of Kashmir.

a) Assistant Professors of the University who have put in at least 3 years of regular service in the University.

(iv) Category III (d). Teachers of Schools, /Higher Educational Institutions, / Research Institutions.

a) The candidates must have obtained a Post Graduate Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent in the concerned subject or in an allied subject approved by the Central University of Kashmir, securing not less than 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7- point scale ( or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution assessed by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
