About the Department

The Department of Biotechnology, under the School of Life Sciences at the Central University of Kashmir, was established in 2015 to promote academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and innovation in biotechnology. Since its inception, the department has steadily grown into a hub for interdisciplinary education and research. The Department provides high-quality education through well-structured programmes aligned with current scientific and societal needs. We aim to train students in fundamental and applied aspects while nurturing critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific curiosity. At the national level, the Department launched integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. and Ph.D. programmes in 2019 with advanced research labs and modern instrumentation to study complex life processes for societal benefit. The faculty team comes with proven research and teaching experience from globally ranked institutions.

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, our Department has redesigned its curriculum for multidisciplinary learning, introduced skill-based credit courses, strengthened research and innovation culture, and actively promotes flexible learning pathways for students' holistic development.
