Department of Zoology, Central University of Kashmir, in collaboration with Wildlife SOS, New Delhi organized an Awareness-cum-Training Programme at its Science Campus Nuner, Ganderbal. The programme was chaired by Dean School of Life Sciences (SoLS), Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar and Project Head, Wildlife SOS (for Jammu and Kashmir), Dr. Mir Aaliya. The proceedings of the entire programme were conducted by Dr. Hameem Mushtaq. The programme was kick-started with the Welcome Address by the Coordinator, Department of Zoology, Dr. Mohammad Lateef. In his welcome address, Dr. Lateef highlighted the role of Herpatofauna in sustaining the ecological balance of nature. This was followed by special remarks from Dean SoLS, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar. While deliberating the necessity for conservation of snakes, Prof. Dar highlighted the role of snake venom in medicinal industries throughout the world. This was followed by an in-depth lecture on snake taxonomy by Dr. Mir Aaliya. In addition to this some myths and misconceptions regarding snake biology were defenestrated by Mr. Aqib Hussain. Mr. Umer Nazir gave hands-on training regarding snake rescue and handling. After these insightful lectures and training sessions, a healthy discussion regarding various parameters of snake conservation was also held. The participants vowed their contribution towards the conservation of wildlife in general and snakes in particular. The programme was attended by a good number of faculty members, Scientists, Research scholars and students from School of Life Sciences, Central University of Kashmir. Later Dr. Chandrakiran Singh formally thanked all the organizers and participants of the entire programme.
