Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Raza

Academic Profile

Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Raza is an Assistant Professor of Comparative Religion and Academic Coordinator in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Ganderbal, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Since joining the University in 2016, he has been actively engaged in teaching, research, academic administration, curriculum development, and student mentoring. As Academic Coordinator, he plays a significant role in coordinating academic activities, facilitating departmental programmes, and contributing to the effective implementation of academic policies and quality initiatives. He completed his B.A. (Hons.) in English and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, followed by an M.A. and M.Phil. in Comparative Religion from the same university. He was awarded the University Grants Commission (UGC) Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), which enabled him to pursue advanced research in Comparative Religion between 2012 and 2016. He has also enhanced his linguistic expertise by earning a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Persian from the University of Mumbai. Before joining the Central University of Kashmir, Mr. Raza gained valuable teaching experience at multiple levels of education. He served in schools under the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, taught at the high school level under the Government of Bihar, and accumulated extensive experience in higher education, enabling him to adopt a learner-centred and interdisciplinary approach to teaching. His research lies at the intersection of Comparative Religion, Religion and Ecology, Environmental Ethics, Philosophy of Religion, Gender and Religion, and Interfaith Studies. His doctoral research focuses on the ecological dimensions of major world religions. It explores how religious teachings, faith-based organizations, and religious communities contribute to environmental conservation and sustainable development through ethical engagement and practical action. Mr. Raza’s scholarly interests include the comparative study of Indic and Semitic religious traditions, religion and sustainable development, environmental ethics, and the role of faith communities in addressing contemporary global challenges. His research seeks to demonstrate the continuing relevance of religious traditions in fostering ecological consciousness, interreligious dialogue, peace, and responsible stewardship of the natural world. In addition to teaching and research, Mr. Raza actively contributes to academic and professional communities. He is associated with the Centre for Indic and Agamic Studies in Asia (CIASA) as a member of its Young Scholars Group and serves on the editorial board of the biannual Islamic magazine al-Hādi.
