Dr. Bikash Das

Dr. Bikash Das is an Assistant Professor of Geography at the School of Education, Central University of Kashmir. He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, an MPhil in Geography from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, and an MSc in Geography and Disaster Management from Tripura University. He has also qualified UGC-NET-JRF in Geography and UGC NET in Women’s Studies.

His research interests include geographies of health, health equity, public health, health systems and policy, climate change and health, social determinants of health, plantation studies, intersectionality, and education and equity, with particular attention to the Himalayan foothills and South Asia. He is currently working on an ICSSR-funded collaborative Major Research Project examining child nutrition and health status in Northeast India.

Dr. Das has published in reputed journals, including Economic & Political Weekly (Sameeksha Trust), Journal of Biosocial Science (Cambridge University Press), and Contemporary Voice of Dalit (SAGE Publications). His publications also include a book chapter with Springer Nature and a research monograph in Bengali on tea plantations. He regularly writes post-editorial columns and articles for popular print media and magazines, engaging with wider public discussions on health, society, environment, and development.

He contributes to scholarly peer review for journals including Health & Place, Social Science & Medicine, and SSM Population Health, published by Elsevier; BMC Nutrition, Discover Social Science and Health, and Discover Psychology, published by Springer Nature; Journal of Biosocial Science, published by Cambridge University Press; Women & Health, published by Taylor & Francis; and Communications Health and Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, published by Nature Portfolio. He has also reviewed for the Indian Journal of Medical Research, published by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the Indian Geographical Journal, published by the Indian Geographical Society, Chennai.

He is a life member of several learned societies, including the Indian Health Economics and Policy Association (IHEPA), Mumbai; the Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS), New Delhi; and the National Association of Geographers, India (NAGI), New Delhi.
