Special Lecture on Women Empowerment
The Department of Economics, Central University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), organised a special lecture for female students of PG and Ph.D. programmes on 14 September 2026 at the Green Campus, Ganderbal. The programme aimed to create awareness about women’s rights, safety, dignity and the provisions available for women students within the University.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Hima Bindu, Assistant Professor, Department of Politics & Governance, and Youth Welfare Officer, Green Campus (DSW), Central University of Kashmir, who spoke on the theme “Women Empowerment: Provisions in CU Kashmir.” She highlighted the importance of education, awareness, equal opportunities and a safe academic environment where women can pursue their studies with confidence and dignity.
During the interaction, important issues related to women’s safety, harassment and ragging were discussed. Students were sensitised about recognising inappropriate behaviour and the harmful effects of ragging and harassment. The session emphasised that every student has the right to an environment free from intimidation, humiliation and discrimination.
The lecture also focused on mutual respect, dignity, equality and responsible behaviour. Students were encouraged to be aware of their rights, raise concerns when necessary and contribute towards creating a supportive and respectful campus environment.
The interactive session provided students an opportunity to ask questions and share their views on women empowerment and safety. It also highlighted the collective responsibility of students and faculty in maintaining a safe, inclusive and respectful University environment.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Tosib Alam, Assistant Professor, Department of
Economics, Central University of Kashmir, and Dr. Saloni Bhutani, Assistant Professor,
Department of Economics, Central University of Kashmir. The session concluded with
the message that meaningful women empowerment requires awareness, confidence,
equality, dignity and safety, making the programme a valuable initiative towards creating a
more inclusive academic environment at Central University of Kashmir.
